My church gave me the option

My church gave me the option of the retreat or a sponsor couple–we did the sponsor couple and it was an awesome experience. Met with them about 4 times at their home and just talked for a couple of hours. We were given a workbook and read a few chapters for each week and answered the questions in the workbook…then we just discussed our answers. It was cool because the couple answered them too…so we learned a lot about them and their relationship as well.

I would imagine you will do exercises similar to this at your retreat…it’s going to be all about making sure you and your fiance have talked through the major issues in a relationship…finances, future goals, children, religion, etc. It will probably be really fun to interact with other engaged couples!

Of note, there are some chapters in the workbook about intimacy and contraception. Not sure if they’ll cover it with you, but it was a bit uncomfortable! We skimmed it pretty quickly as I am not one to get into detail about that stuff with others…

In regards to dorm life, I would suggest checking to make sure they provide linens for the beds…sometimes you have to bring your own. Might want to bring an extra blanket if you tend to get cold at night…you never know what type of blanket they’ll provide. Your own pillow might be helpful too. Some dorms have private bathrooms, but most are communal, so be prepared for that. Towels, toiletries in a travel container would be helpful!

Have fun! I think you’ll have a great weekend…and it’s such a nice way to spend some time with the person you love. You really get to open up about things that perhaps you haven’t discussed at length…and you might be proud to find that you’ve covered most of the topics already and are on the same page!
